Former PS 249 Teacher Indicted For Allegedly Sexually Abusing Nine Students: Brooklyn DA

A former PS 249 science teacher was arraigned today on charges that he allegedly sexually abused nine female elementary school students, all of whom were between the ages of 8 and 11, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said.

Omil Carrasquillo, 36, of Selden, Long Island, was previously arraigned on charges that he allegedly groped and fondled five students, and the DA has now charged him with allegedly abusing four more girls. All of the incidents allegedly took place on school property, located at 18 Marlborough Road, by Caton Avenue, according to Thompson.

Carrasquillo pleaded not guilty, was released on $200,000 bail, and is expected back in court on February 6, the DA’s office said.

A city Department of Education spokesman told us that Carrasquillo no longer works for the DOE and said that his last day working for the department was September 19.

The ex-teacher was arraigned on a 22-count indictment in which he is charged with assaulting the nine students between November 1, 2012 and September 8, 2014, the DA said. He now faces three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, three counts of second-degree sexual abuse, 11 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and five counts of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child.

“This is a disturbing case in which a teacher allegedly groped young girls,” Thompson said in a press release. “This defendant is an alleged predator who surrounded himself with vulnerable victims. What should have been a safe haven instead became a parent’s worst nightmare. We will now seek to vindicate the rights of these children.”
