Food Co-op For Windsor Terrace & Kensington Residents Searching For Help Finding Space, Grant Writing

After years of interest, residents pushing for the Windsor Terrace Food Co-op are hoping to soon make the food mecca a reality, and they’re now looking for space to operate in, as well as someone who may be able to lend a hand with grant writing.

The co-op, which will serve both Windsor Terrace and Kensington, is seeking a grant writer to help them find funding for space and other expenses, as first reported by the KARMA Brooklyn Blog. Neighbor Jack O’Connell, who has been spearheading the food co-op efforts, told us that the co-op’s site committee has been looking at “commercial property from Prospect Park West all the way south to Church Avenue for  a suitable store that could serve the needs of the community.”

Already, hundreds of people have signed up for the Windsor Terrace Food Co-op’s email list, and numerous neighbors have repeatedly said they would welcome such a spot with open arms.

“A well-run co-op brings the community excellent food at very reasonable prices,” O’Connell told us. “It also serves as a major focal point in a community. Windsor Terrace has changed enormously over the past decade. There is a lot of new energy matched with the old time family stability that could make the co-op the place for neighbors to get together in a very productive way, financially and socially.”
