Flatbush Artists: Make Your Art Public
Are you a visual artist in Flatbush? #SAVEARTSPACE and the Flatbush Zombies want to help local artists display their art publicly in our area.
The non-profit arts project and local rap group have teamed up to sponsor a competition in which three winning artists will be displayed on billboards around Flatbush later this year.
“Together, we are determined to give back to the community of Flatbush in a new and unique way; by supporting the visual artists who appreciate and are inspired by the music,” they say.
Flatbush artists are invited to apply to be one of the three artists selected for promotion between March 4th and March 23rd. There is no entry fee to participate.
Flatbush Zombies, a rap group from Flatbush, formed in 2010 and is made up of Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice and Erick “The Architect” Elliott. Part of the “Beast Coast” hip hop movement, they’re about to release their debut album, “3001: A Laced Odyssey.”
#SAVEARTSPACE is a non-profit initiative that seeks to “bring aesthetic change to public spaces by transforming advertisements into crowd-sourced art and providing opportunities for artists to display their work.”
All submissions to the competition will be featured on #SAVEARTSPACE social media pages with the permission of the artist. The complete rules of submission can be found here.
The competition’s curators are the Flatbush Zombies, along with Justin Aversion and Travis Rix, co-founders and co-executive directors of SaveArtSpace. Contact them for more information at saveartspace@gmail.com.
