Flashback Friday: Creepy Figures After Prospect Park Snowfall

Photo via Library of Congress

The peaceful, snow-coated Prospect Park often appears blissful in the winter. Children frolic, family sledding ensues, and nature provides a comforting blanket.

That’s not necessarily the case in this early twentieth century snow scene, as figures dressed in black mingle with trees sculpted by snow in a manner not often seen.

Taken c. 1904?, the photo caption reads: “Brooklyn, New York; people among heavily snow-covered trees.” The photo was taken by O.E. Dunlap.

The image is part of the Digital Collection of the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
