A fast-spreading fire ripped through seven storefronts just before midnight on Monday, on 11th Avenue and 63rd Street in Dyker Heights. The blaze sent several firefighters to the emergency room.

The fire destroyed a dry cleaner, a pharmacy, a liquor store, a Chinese restaurant and a grocery store. The fire took several hours to get under control as one witness remarked that flames were shooting towards the sky. Another witness said that firefighters had a tough time removing the metal security gates from the storefronts which made the challenge of fighting the fire all the more difficult, according to an ABC News report.

Several firefighters were hurt battling the blaze, but none seriously so. The FDNY still doesn’t know the cause of the fire and in what business the fire originated.
