PARK SLOPE – Thursday night wreaked havoc for several Park Slope families who came home to their burning homes.

At around 11pm, the FDNY, along with the NYPD and the American Red Cross organization, arrived at the scene on 11th street between 5th and 6th avenues.

The fire had ignited in one of these wooden houses, then jumped to the house on its left and the one on its right.

FDNY Chief explained that the fire was able to stretch to the other two homes. “It’s because of the open cockloft which is the area between the attic and the roof level. There’s an area there and the fire was able to extend from one building to another. That’s how all three buildings were affected.”

Though there were many neighbors on that block looking out from their homes concerned, no one was more devastated than the homeowners, who had already experienced this about a year ago according to one victim who chose to remain anonymous.

The FDNY confirmed later: “No injuries. One minor injury. There was nobody in the buildings at the time.”

Park Slope is known for its brownstones and its lack of driveways and space between each house.  “Thanks to quick thinking on the firemen’s part, the fire was knocked out. The fire could have been a lot worse,” said FDNY. Still no information on what started the fire.
