After his cat Smoke disappeared on July 27, Jim Greene began an intense search. He postered the neighborhood and did his best to get the word out to the community about his missing pet.

We’re happy to learn that the search has a happy ending. Greene’s relentless work paid off, and the community played a vital role.

Greene told us that Smoke the cat “was found on Tuesday [September 8] in Red Hook on Coffey and Van Brunt Streets.”

Greene explains that Smoke was found and taken in by Terri Steele, who is the owner of Steele Pilates. “She called me after her daughter saw a poster of Smoke,” said Greene.

Of course, Greene is elated and relieved. “Putting up posters and not giving up is the only way I found him. I had so many people helping and telling me, ‘Don’t give up.'”

So how is Smoke feeling, and what’s he been up to?

“Right now, Smoke is sleeping. He has been very stressed out and just saw a vet tech,” he told us. “He was gone for over six weeks and lost a lot of weight. So we will give him some time, some rest, a regular diet, and tons of love.”

Congrats to Greene, and welcome back, Smoke the cat!
