Saint Finbar Roman Catholic Church is one of our neighborhood’s oldest institutions.

With a congregation that dates back to 1880, parishioners still worship in Saint Finbar’s gold-trimmed, stately building that was built in 1910 on the corner of Benson Avenue and Bay 20th Street. The church is named for the first bishop of Cork, Ireland — the hometown of many of Bensonhurst’s early Irish settlers, according to the church’s website.

This Sunday, September 20, the Saint Finbar will celebrate 135 years of service to the people of Bensonhurst and Bath Beach with its annual Feast Day. Neighbors are invited to a mass at 138 Bay 20th Street, beginning at 12pm, followed by a procession through the community.
