Fatal Stabbing on E. 15th and Ave. X

A 13-year-old boy was stabbed to death with a screwdriver last night on East 15th street and Avenue X.

The victim, Miguel Saavedra, was attacked just before 7:30 p.m. He was walking with a friend who is a year younger when the suspect, described as a male Hispanic wearing black shorts, began chasing them on a bicycle. When he caught up to Saavedra he stabbed him multiple times with a screwdriver.

He was rushed to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Saavedra, who lived above a Chinese restaurant on Sheepshead Bay Road and attended Shell Bank J.H.S., is believed to have had a confrontation with a group of teens that included the suspect over the weekend at the park on Avenue V and East 13th street.
