WILLIAMSBURG – A fatal car crash claimed the life of a Williamsburg man and injured two others when a car slammed into a parked construction trailer, police confirmed today.

The collision took place on Johnson Avenue in Williamsburg, between Bushwick Avenue and Humboldt Street, around 3:00 am on Thursday, June 28, said police. Responding to the scene, officers found a 2006 Infiniti M35 wedged under the stationary trailer, with two occupants in the car.

Responding EMS transported the driver, Esteban Sanchez, 29, and a 39-year old female passenger to Woodhull Hospital. Sanchez, a resident of nearby Boriquen Plaza, suffered severe head trauma and succumbed to his injuries and died a few days later, on Monday, July 2.

The passenger was in stable condition when transported to the hospital, as was a 30-year old construction worker who was in the trailer at the time of the crash—he suffered an injury to his shoulder.

An investigation determined that Sanchez’s vehicle was traveling westbound on Johnson Avenue when it struck the trailer across the street from 225 Johnson Ave, continuing under the vehicle until it came to rest. While an investigation into the accident is ongoing, no arrests have been made at this time.
