Sports and fitness are on the docket for the next few months in Fort Green and Clinton Hill.

Coming up this Columbus Day is the Second Annual Fort Greene Track & Field Day. Co-sponsored by the Young Rock Soccer Academy and Turf the Slab, this year’s event will be at Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene. The Track & Field Day will feature sports and activities for kids aged 5 to 14. Athletes from LIU Brooklyn and the Pratt Institute will be on hand to lead healthy exercises and games. Volunteers from the NYPD 88th Precinct will also be leading activities throughout the day.

The event was moved to Commodore Barry Park this year to spotlight the park and its potential for greater use, said organizer Michael Randazzo.

“The fields, which are heavily used, are in poor shape,” he said. “We want the community to know they’re great. It’s probably time to renovate the green space and make it useful for the whole community.”

Participation in Fort Greene Track & Field Day is free and will take place on Monday, Oct. 14 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Commodore Barry Park at Flushing Avenue and Navy Street. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. For more information or to RSVP, contact Michael Randazzo at michael@youngrocksoccer.us.

Long Island University Brooklyn is bringing back the Games For Gear program this November, giving neighborhood schools and community groups the opportunity to garner up to 50 free tickets to see the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds men and women’s basketball teams play select games on their home court this fall.

The school or group that redeems the most vouchers will win $500 towards new sports equipment and a pizza party at the Blackbirds’ home court, the Steinberg Wellness Center. The winning group will also be invited to watch the Blackbirds basketball teams play a Saturday double-header in February.

To sign up, have your school or community group contact Greg Fox, the Associate Director of Athletics at (718) 488-1018 or by emailing gfox@liu.edu.
