Excelsior Opening New Spot In South Slope

Excelsior, the popular gay bar that had been located at 390 5th Avenue, between 6th and 7th Streets, since 1999 until it closed in August, will soon have a new lease on life further down 5th in South Slope.

The bar announced today on Facebook that they’ll be moving into the space at 563 5th Avenue, between 15th and 16th Streets. The storefront was most recently a dry cleaner, but it’s been vacant for some time. According to a listing, this new space may actually be a bit bigger than the bar’s previous home up 5th Avenue, and it also has a backyard.
