What: Elisha Cooper will discuss his riveting, immensely emotional latest book, which details his daughter’s battle with cancer. He’ll be joined by Leslie James, author of The Empathy Exams.

Brooklyn Poetry Slam

What: A few of Brooklyn’s best poets are heading off to contend at the National Poetry Slam, so here’s your chance to stop by and see them in their native borough before they move on to the next level.

The Best Man
When: 4:30pm, 7pm, 9:30pm
Where: Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: Satire often penetrates deepest, and that could well be true of this still-highly relevant Gore Vidal masterpiece, starring Henry Fonda, Montgomery Clift and Lee Tracy in a film about the race for the White House. If you don’t feel like watching the RNC but do want something political, consider this.

What: Choreographer Camille A. Brown explores black identity through her unique lens of dance in a show that you’ll need to see to understand. The show will start with harpist Brandee Younger.

Trivia Night

Where: Putnam’s Pub at 419 Myrtle Avenue
What: Stop by for some of the best trivia in our ephemera obsessed borough. This is a weekly trivia competition with prizes like gift cards. Just as important, there are beer specials all night.

America Is Hard To See

What: Emile de Antonio’s radical, subversive, sly portrayal of the 1968 presidential election remains as vital and relevant as ever, providing a lens into all subsequent elections.
