[UPDATED] Dance, Ride, Shop & Eat At The Flatbush Avenue Street Fair, Saturday July 9
Mark your calendars: The annual Flatbush Avenue Street Fair, one of the city’s most anticipated and popular summer events, is this Saturday July 9, from 12pm to 6pm, on Flatbush Avenue stretching from Parkside Avenue to Cortelyou Road. (Rain or shine!)
The festival, organized by the Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District, celebrates the people, culture, and businesses along the historic avenue with dancing, music, rides, carnival games, food, shopping, and more — with Caribbean flair. Last year, we reported that the festival drew 13,000 people to the neighborhood, so prepare for some serious fun — and serious crowds.
[Updated July 7] A glimpse of some festival highlights and their locations for Saturday, July 9:
• Music all day from DJ Omar and WBLS 107.5 personalities, at Lenox Road.
• Inflatable climbing wall and free ticket giveaway at the Kings Theatre, at Tilden Street.
• Kids’ rides including The Whip, the Trackless Train, Pirate Ship and more, at Clarkson Avenue.
• Live West Indian dance performances by from Cynthia King Dance, Prospect Gymnastics and others, at Snyder Avenue.
Magic show by magician Apollo Riego at 2pm, at the MetroPlus booth near Church Avenue
• Tons of shopping from many BID businesses and additional vendors from Parkside Avenue to Cortelyou Road.
And, for the drivers out there, steer clear of this area on Saturday! Flatbush Avenue, from Parkside to Cortelyou, will be closed to traffic for much of the day, and other roads around the event are often congested. In addition, there will be no parking on Flatbush Avenue from Friday July 8 through the festival.
