An awesome chance to celebrate newly accessible parkland is coming up soon!

If you’ve looked down while traveling on the Manhattan Bridge subway tracks over DUMBO, you’ve likely seen cranes and dump trucks rolling around the waterfront. Back in 2013, development began on an expansion to Brooklyn Bridge Park, with plans to create additional green space on both ends of the waterfront park.

The project, which boasts lush lawns, pedestrian pathways, and an annex of Brooklyn Children’s Museum, is in its final stages of development — and now it’s time to party!

On Saturday, August 8, head to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a party fit for Brooklyn kids. Sponsored by the DUMBO Improvement District and Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the DUMBO Family Fest will feature entertainment by Hungry March Band and an interactive puppet show by Izzy and Ooli, along with games and giveaways throughout the afternoon.

At DUMBO Family Fest, kids can test out their climbing skills on a newly installed bouldering wall, while your four-legged family members burn out some energy around the upgraded dog run — talk about serious fun for everyone in the family.

While you’re enjoying the festivities, take a look around and check out the new waterfront parkland — at John Street, there are pedestrian bridges over a tidal salt marsh and a 13,000-square-foot gathering lawn, and the renovated Main Street park has an expanded lawn and the adaptively reused 99 Plymouth St, a building with public restrooms, a community room, and a space that will be home to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s Environmental Education Center.

The free party will run from 11am to 1pm and entrances to the event will be at John Street and Jay Street.
