Elderly Cyclist Killed In Accident On Benson Ave, Bay 26th St

An SUV crashed into a 74-year-old bicyclist on Sunday afternoon, killing the cyclist.

Gothamist is reporting that the bike rider, identified as Mai Zhang, was riding against traffic down Bay 26th Street when an SUV driving west on Benson Avenue struck and killed Zhang.

The driver of the SUV was described as a woman in her 50s and stayed on the scene, although the Post reports that her 12-year-old son, shocked by the accident, ran away before returning with his father. The NYPD suspect no criminality in the case but an investigation is ongoing.

Locals tell Bensonhurst Bean the man was a delivery person for a local Chinese restaurant.
