Eat, Shop, And Support Local Schools During ‘Cortelyou At Twilight’

Sunset Over Cortelyou by Daniel Kim

On Thursday, October 10, from 5-9pm, check out Cortelyou Road from Coney Island Avenue to East 17th Street, where you’ll be able to enjoy special access to the library and the fire house, get a free lesson in salsa dancing, see art on display, and taste some of the things nine of our restaurants, bars, and specialty food and drink shops have to offer during Cortelyou at Twilight, an event presented by the Flatbush Development Corporation.

Tickets for the tasting, which include six food tastes and three drink tastes (21+ only), are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event, which is happening rain or shine.

All proceeds from tickets and 10% of all sales at featured stores between 5-9pm will benefit PS 139 and PS 217 and their Garden to Café programs, which help teach kids a love of healthy, locally-grown food.

Featured food and drink participants include: The Castello Plan, Mimi’s Hummus, Picket Fence, Sycamore, Brooklyn ARTery, Bar Chord, The Farm on Adderley, T.B. Ackerson Wine & Spirits, and Catskill Bagels.

Featured stores include: Brooklyn Industries, Flatbush Food Co-op, Collyer’s Mansion, Grace Eye Care, Brooklyn ARTery, Sacred Vibes Apothecary, San Remo Pizzeria, and Amira’s Accessories & Gift Shoppe.

Special events: Latin Fever Dance Studio, free salsa dance lesson; Gabe’s Camera City Discount Store & Video, camera tune-up; Grace Eye Care, frame adjustments and treats.

The event is sponsored by the Flatbush Development Corporation and Brooklyn Hearth

Using funds received from a $25,000 “placemaking” grant provided by the city’s Department of Small Business Services, the FDC is highlighting Cortelyou Road this year with promotions like this and their Guide to Cortelyou, a merchants directory that you can find on the left side of our page as well as in stores on the street soon. The FDC hopes to do something to encourage shopping along Cortelyou during the holidays, as well.
