EAST FLATBUSH – A worker at a Nostrand Avenue farm market was killed yesterday when a makeshift hoist fell on him, police confirmed.

The accident took place at the KP Farm Market, at 1887 Nostrand Avenue, near Newkirk, just before noon on Monday, April 2.

The hoist platform fell on the man while he was working in the basement, the Department of Buildings told the Daily News. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The makeshift elevator was “illegally installed and lacks the proper safeguards for use,” like doors, the DOB said.

The store was ordered to take the hoist out of service while the accident is investigated. It had been used to transport goods to the first floor of the market, raising and lowering from the basement.

The victim has yet to be identified, pending family notification.
