Dyker Heights Shooting Leaves Man With Serious Injuries Near Public School

A 20-year-old man was shot in the cheek inside a Dyker Heights apartment on Tuesday, across the street from a school, cops said.

Shots were fired inside a third-floor apartment on Bay Ridge Avenue near 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights, around 2pm on May 9, said cops. The shooting was across the street from P.S. 176, the Ovington School, which was placed under temporary lockdown immediately following the shooting, said officials.

The 20-year-old victim was rushed to Maimonides Hospital in serious condition with a wound on his cheek, police said.

After a 10 block chase, a suspect was caught on Eighth Avenue after hiding in the Fei Long Supermarket, reports the NY Daily News. A gun was also recovered at the scene.

Neighbors told the Daily that the victim lived with his brother and his brother’s wife.

As of Wednesday morning, there have not been any arrests.
