Driving Down Flatbush Avenue
We’ve followed someone as they’ve walked down Flatbush Ave (in a way) and now we can see the view of a driver. This video, posted on the Drewry News Network, starts at Church Ave heads south, turning onto Nostrand at the Junction, a trip which, in the video, takes about 6.5 minutes, and which passes a hundred points of history, old and new. On the left flush hand side, you see Dr. Jays, Erasmus Hall high school, Dr. Jays ladies on the flush right hand side, and Jimmy Jazz. Back in the day, many Brooklyn heads enjoy the nightlife in chilling on Flatbush Avenue at clubs such as Caribbean dome, the Ark, Tilden ballroom next to Sybil’s bakery, and making noise up and down Flatbush Avenue in the wee hours of the morning.
Driving by, you also see the double-parked trucks, the dollar vans and city busses, and you can see how it’s a bit of an obstacle course. But it’s interesting to see it now, and to imagine what the same route was like a hundred years ago, and what it will look like in another hundred.
