A driver crashed her car into the side of an apartment building on the corner of East 16th Street and Dorchester Road around 3:15pm Friday afternoon, also knocking down a street sign and a mailbox.

Neighbor Willie Diaz says he was walking down E. 16th Street when he saw a green Toyota Camry that had been parked at the corner back into the Land Cruiser parked behind it then move forward and hit a mailbox before crashing into the side of 1525 Dorchester Road.

Driver Rose Paul says she wanted to move her purse from the front seat to the back before going to work and didn’t realize the car wasn’t in park. “The car started moving forward and I panicked,” said Paul.

Although the car’s airbag went off and a hole was punched through the wall of the building, no one appeared to be injured.

Police officers from the 70th Precinct at the scene said that there was only minor damage and that they would have the Department of Buildings check it out.
