Drink Up At Sycamore Thursday Evening To Benefit Brooklyn College’s Global Medical Brigades
This Thursday, October 17, Sycamore (1118 Cortelyou Road between Stratford and Westminster Roads) will be hosting a benefit for the Brooklyn College chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an organization that sends doctors and volunteers to provide health services for underserved communities. From 6:30-10pm, attendees can enjoy drinks and cupcakes, with all proceeds going to the group’s next trip.
The chapter has previously visited Panama and Nicaragua, and hopes to return to Honduras in the summer of 2014. From the group’s 2013 Empowered page:
Each patient receives a physician consultation, public health talk, and prescribed medicines as well as have access to PAP smears, prostate exams and restorative dental care as necessary. Children, in addition, receive teeth cleaning, a fluoride treatment, and vitamins necessary for proper growth and development…
Volunteers will become familiar with the prevalent health issues in their community and learn about how to prevent and treat those illnesses. These brigades provide each volunteer with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a specific community while gaining real life experience in the field of international medicine and dentistry.
Stop by, have a drink, and help students get experience while providing life-saving services to others.
