Don’t Miss DUMBO’s First Thursday Gallery Walk Tomorrow
DUMBO’s First Thursday Gallery Walk is tomorrow, March 2nd, with a line-up including over a dozen openings and activities.
Galleries will be open from 6 to 8pm, so there’s plenty of time to check out the new exhibitions.
Below is a list of 3 picks—video artwork projected onto the Manhattan Bridge, sculpture displayed under its Archway, and an installation on view at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
See below for more details.
Drift by Leonard Uraschi
On view at the Archway Under the Manhattan Bridge, the public sculpture “Drift” was created by DUMBO-based artist Leonard Uraschi. Composed of concrete casts of driftwood found on the Brooklyn banks of the East River and its wooden piers, Uraschi assembled the pieces standing with their roots up in the air.
“Drift” will be on view through the end of March.
Digital Fairy Tales: Album Two curated by Leo Kuelbs and Sandra Ratkovic
Projected onto the side of the Manhattan Bridge, these sound and visual works created by various artists were inspired by old German tales collected by Xavier von Schonwerth. The projections will be displayed from 6 to 10pm at the Pearl Street Triangle (Pearl and Water Streets).
Digital Fairy Tales: Album Two will also have an opening and panel discussion with co-curator Leo Kuelbs and the artists whose works are featured at 7:30pm at the Made in NY Media Center By IFP at 30 John Street.
Before Now by Priscila De Carvalho
Brooklyn Bridge Park will present Brazilian-born, New York-based artist Priscila De Carvalho’s site-specific installation entitled, “Before Now” at 99 Plymouth Street. The works consist of vibrant murals as well as intricate light box drawings.
