Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, at 2am on Sunday, November 6, so before you go to bed on Saturday night, remember to change your clocks!

Falling back in time means we gain an hour of sleep, which we’re sure those running the New York City Marathon this Sunday will appreciate.

Another reminder: take this opportunity to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, so remember to grab some batteries while you’re out and about in the next couple days. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind, as well, courtesy of National Grid:

And more tips:

  • Inspect fire extinguishers on a monthly basis.
  • If you smell gas, get out of the house and do not light a match or cigarette, or turn on — or off! — flashlights or stoves. Once you’re safe, call 911 or National Grid at 718-643-4050 for Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island and 1-800-490-0045 for Long Island/Rockaway Peninsula right away.
  • If you’re doing home renovation that requires digging or excavation, call 8-1-1 between 2-10 days beforehand so the utility companies can come FOR FREE and mark the approximate locations of their lines so you and contractors can avoid it.
