The summer soap box workshops at Open Source Gallery, where children ages 7 to 15 learn to construct functional, eco-friendly soap box racers out of recycled materials, are in full swing, and owner Monika Wuhrer tells us that the gang is in need of wheels for the kid’s derby cars.

What kind of wheels? Just about anything from old strollers to bicycles will work, and the art space will even salvage the wheels for you.

Neighbors can drop off their donations at 306 17th street between 5th and 6th ave between 8:30am and 1pm, or Monika says that she can also make pickups in the evenings.

The summer workshops culminate on August 10 with a soap box derby on 17th Street, which is open to the entire community. Both kids and adults who are interested in racing just need to show up with their derby car (make sure it’s made from only salvaged materials) and roll their way to victory.
