Dogs Off-Leash at PS 139 Playground?

Dogs Off-Leash at PS 139 Playground?

Do we really need to remind people that the playground at PS 139 does not allow dogs to be off-leash? (I’m not even sure it technically allows dogs.) A neighbor sent in this photo of a pooch running around there yesterday morning–not sure if that’s his ball or the now-destroyed ball of some poor kid.

As most dog walkers know, Prospect Park has off-leash hours from 9pm to 1am and from 5 to 9am daily in the Long Meadow, the Nethermead, and the Peninsula.

People have often ask about the possibility of a full-time dog run in the area. Last year one Windsor Terrace woman tried to get support to create one at the Parade Ground, but that fell through. A dog run was also proposed during the Participatory Budgeting sessions last year in Counclimember Brad Lander’s neighboring district, but because a project like that could cost upwards of $600,000, it did not even make it onto the ballot.

Say someone came up with the capital, was able to complete the project, and could provide the continued resources for upkeep after it was installed–where would you like to see a dog run in the area?
