Dog of the Day: Sammy

Dog of the Day: Sammy

Presenting Sammy, a three and a half month old boxer.

Tell me about Sammy.
He likes to jump. All the boxers jump. Boxer is a kind of dog that likes to play until it dies. That’s what they say about boxers. He will play until the end.

Have you had dogs before?
Yeah, when I was in my 20s I used to have a boxer. And after, I had a Saint Bernard. He died from epilepsy. He was young, he was three years old.

Did you want a dog when you were a kid?
Yeah, yeah. My mother wasn’t into dogs. My father, yes, but my mother, she likes dogs. She told me, I love dogs, but I do not love dogs in my house.

How did it feel when you finally got a dog?
It was difficult because I had to figure out where to leave the dog. So I used to take the dog with me to work. We owned a company in Italy. I used to work for my father. I was in real estate. I used to go around with a car. Most of the time I would take the dog with me. I enjoyed taking the dog to the park a little bit between one appointment and another. I enjoyed the break with the dog. My wife, too, she had a boxer, she was really close with a boxer. But this time, it was mostly for my daughter. She’s eight.

Do they get along?
Yeah. I was surprised. You know, when you take a dog for yourself, it’s mostly – yeah, yeah, it’s for me, basically, not for my daughter. But she is pretty good, I have to say. She spends a lot of time with the dog. So that’s a plus.

Do you think it will be helpful for her to learn responsibility?
Absolutely. I think it is a really good thing to have somebody that you can take care of a little bit when you are young.

Soon she’ll be walking him by herself.
Exactly. Not now because she’s little. She will be able to do it. Now, she comes with me. You know, when the dog makes poop, she’s the one to take care of it. She’s good, she’s good. I have to say. I was surprised.

Can you imagine living without a dog?
No, it is strange. It’s a surprise. You have your memory. It is a good thing to do. He is a part of the family. It is a nice thing.
