DOB Says Crews Working To Stabilize 288 16th Street
288 16th construction crew

Neighbors spotted a construction crew at 288 16th Street on Tuesday, the site of last week’s partial building collapse. As of this morning, both a full vacate and a stop work order still remained on the property, but after our call to the Department of Buildings, the website was updated to show that the stop work order had been partially rescinded, allowing crews to perform “shoring of the cellar and the first floor, and remove debris per direction of the FEU (Forensic Engineering Unit).”

In an email response, the DOB confirmed that, “the Department’s Forensic Engineering Unit is monitoring work at the site. A plan is in place to install shoring in order to stabilize the building. The property owner is complying with the Department’s orders.”

If you see anything suspicious, or have additional concerns, the DOB says the best number to call is 311.
