Do We Have A Serial Phone Thief On Our Hands?
A neighbor wrote to us about an unsavory incident she witnessed recently:
It was Friday March 29th around 12pm. A man on a bike was riding towards me on the sidewalk between Stratford and Westminster on Cortelyou when he rode up behind an unsuspecting woman and grabbed the iPhone out of her hand and sped off. I quickly dialed 911 for the woman to report the theft. Luckily, he stole a phone from another woman around the corner who had the find my iPhone app turned on and the police were able to get both phones back to their owners. The man on the bike had dropped them off to be sold in that short amount of time. Just be weary of carrying cell phones while walking the street!
The 70th Precinct has not responded to our request for information about the thefts.
Kensington BK posted yesterday about a reported phone-snatching in the 66th Precinct, and as commenters can testify, some strange things have been going on the the neighborhood as of late. So, what precautions are you taking to stay safe?
