Ditmas Park Weekend Events
Determined not to let the rain ruin your weekend? There’s a ton of stuff you can do besides hide under the covers, like check out the completed Newkirk Tunnel Mosaic, learn about fishing and canoeing, or attend a Mother’s Day Omelet Cook-Off. Read about these events and more after the jump.
- Run for education at the PTA 5K, Prospect Park, 10am.
- Help the Woodland Corps keep Prospect Park clean and green by the Picnic House, 10am-2pm.
- Sustainable Flatbush’s Healing Herb Garden Saturday open hours are at 2103 Kenmore Terrace, 10am-2pm (with compost open hours 10am-12pm).
- Kids of all ages are invited to Story Time with Council Member Mathieu Eugene at the Cortelyou Library, 11am-12pm.
- Neighborhood favorites Rolie Polie Guacamole play at the Cortelyou Library, 11:30am.
- Learn about the practice and ethics of freshwater fishing at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, 12pm.
- Check out the Pop-Up Audubon, Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm.
- Learn about 19th Century life at the Lefferts 2nd Floor Tours, Lefferts Historic House, Saturdays and Sundays 1pm-3:30pm (tours every half hour).
- See neighbor Eric Pesso‘s work at the BWAC Spring Show, 499 Van Brunt St. in Red Hook, 1-6pm until June 16.
- Kids can learn about spinning yarn at History in Your Hands: Fleece Fun, also at the Lefferts Historic House, Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4pm.
- Celebrate the completion of Newkirk Tunnel Mosaic with neighbor Juan Carlos Pinto, the Brooklyn Recycle Project crew, and the Newkirk Cares Collaborative, 2-4pm at the Newkirk Plaza subway station.
- Snack, drink, plant, craft, and rock out at Butterflies, Bulbs, and Bookmarks, outside the Cortelyou Library, 2-5pm.
- Make preserves for Mom with Greenmarket manager Tali Biale at Brooklyn ARTery, 3:30-5pm.
- “Honey, Dear” Vintage Jazz is on at Lark, 4-5pm.
- Attend the third South Brooklyn Queers meetup at Lark, 7-1opm.
- Trumpet player Jon Crowley and brass quartet The Westerlies at Sycamore, 9pm.
- Sweet Potato is at 773 Lounge, 10pm.
- Names You Can Trust hosts their weekly party at Sycamore, 10pm.
Sunday, May 12
- Run in the Mother’s Day Duathalon in Prospect Park, starting times staggered from 7:30-8:40am.
- Get food and family portraits at the PS 139 5th Grade Graduation Fundraiser, PS 139 schoolyard, 10am-1pm.
- Attend a Mother’s Day brunch/Omelet Cook-Off at the Cortelyou Greenmarket info tent, 11:30am-1pm.
- Get in the water for some basic canoeing, starting at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, 1pm.
- Compost for Brooklyn and Million Trees NYC are holding a plant sale and tree giveaway on Newkirk Ave. and E 8th St., 2-4pm.
- Underground Works (lineup TBA) is on at Sycamore, 8pm.
