August has arrived, and with cool rainstorms to wash away last week’s stifling July heat. But don’t let the rain keep you indoors, there’s a great event lineup this week — whether you’re looking to crash a benefit concert, dance the night away, meet your local police officers, or catch some local Pokemon — this is your spot for the hottest weekday events in (and immediately around) Ditmas Park. Live Music at Bar Chord
When: Monday, August 1 at 9:30pm
Where: Bar Chord, 10008 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Special Monday performance by Kevin Mcwha Steele, a crooner who Gary Lucas calls a “brilliantly versatile modern singer/songwriter who can rock furiously.”
How Much: Free show, but show the bar some love.

Celebrate Brooklyn Benefit Concert: Beirut / Fabiano do Nascimento
When: Tuesday, August 2 at 7:30pm (gates at 6:30pm)
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, enter at 9th Street and Prospect Park West.
What: Join Brooklyn-based indie rockers as they perform from their new musical venture ‘No No No.’
How Much: Tickets start at $39.50

70th Precinct Celebrates National Night Out
When: Tuesday, August 2 from 6:30pm to 9pm
Where: Parade Grounds, Caton Avenue at Argyle Road.
What: The free event is part of a nationwide celebration to promote community involvement in crime prevention and will include a barbecue, rides, face painting, games, and giveaways. Everyone is welcome to attend. Live in Kensington, Midwood or Boro Park? Check out the 66th Precinct’s National Night Out celebration on the same day.

Planning Meeting for March Against Gentrification, Racism & Police Violence
When: Tuesday, August 2 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm
Where: Flatbush Library, 22 Linden Boulevard between Flatbush and Bedford Avenues.
What: Join Equality for Flatbush to plan their March against Gentrification, Racism and Police Violence in Flatbush & East Flatbush. The march is scheduled for Saturday August 13. For more info, email info@equalityforflatbush.org. All are welcome.

Celebrate Brooklyn Benefit Concert: The Lumineers / Langhorne Slim & The Law and Rayland Baxter
When: Wednesday, August 3 at 7pm (gates at 6pm)
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, enter at 9th Street and Prospect Park West.
What: Another legendary indie band this week at the bandshell! This show is sold out, but we wanted to mention it because there’s always a chance to sidle up to the gates with a blanket and hear the concert anyway.
How Much: Tickets (which started at $39.50) are sold out, but its free to listen outside the gates.

Meditation Intro Workshop
When: Wednesday, August 3 at 7pm
Where: Family of Light Holistic Center, 717 Coney Island Avenue between Cortelyou Road and Avenue C.
What: Learn meditation techniques at this free intro workshop that will preview materials for a longer meditation workshop on August 7. Beginners welcome! Reserve your spot online here.

Pokemon Go Lure Party Flatbush
When: Thursday, August 4 from 3pm to 6pm
Where: Various spots on Church Avenue, near the intersections of Stratford Road, Westminster Road, Argyle Road, and on Ocean Avenue off Church Avenue.
What: Catch Pokemon and support local businesses at the Church Avenue BID’s ‘Lure Party Flatbush’. Feature refreshments will be served at AM Thai, Lark, Buffalo’s Famous, and other favorites.
How Much: The lures are free, but be sure to re-energize with iced drinks and ice cream throughout the afternoon, priced per order.

’60s DJ Set at the Adirondack Bar
When: Thursday, August 4 from 7pm to 9pm
Where: Adirondack Bar, 1241 Prospect Avenue between Reeve Place and Greenwood Avenue.
What: Looking for a local spot to end your week in style? Jam out with DJ Kyle Brown, spinning favorite rhythm and blues, soul, girl groups, pop, soundtracks, and other records from the ’60s at the Adirondack Bar just over the bridge in Windsor Terrace.
How Much: Purchase drinks or food at the bar.

Q-Train: Ditmas Park’s LGBTQ Party
When: Thursday, August 4 at 8pm and every first Thursday of the month.
Where: Sycamore Bar, 1118 Cortelyou Road between Stratford and Westminster Roads.
What: The only flower shop-bar in town hosts the biggest LGBTQ party in town. Come by at 8pm for bingo games hosted by Ariel Speedwagon; 9pm for a special performance; and 10pm for DJ Go Go Gadget’s set.
How Much: No cover charge.

Celebrate Brooklyn: RUN LOLA RUN with live score
When: Thursday, August 4 at 7:30pm (gates at 6:30pm)
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, enter at 9th Street and Prospect Park West.
What: A dramatic, outdoor showing of the cult classic Run Lola Run, with a live score London-based improvisational trio The Bays; and an introduction from collaborators Joan as Police Woman & Benjamin Lazar Davis.
