Ditmas Park Supports Former Dem Candidates Over Hillary Clinton, Donation Stats Show
With just 19 days to go before the election, New York-based data-driven real estate startup RentHop has mapped out Brooklyn’s share of donors for presidential nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton by zip code, and found that Ditmas Park stands with her — but only in a race between Clinton and Trump.
Using data from the Federal Election Commission, RentHop discovered that Ditmas Park / Flatbush (11226) still financially supports the previous democratic candidates from the current election cycle — like Bernie Sanders — more than democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Kensington (11218) now stands with her, but only by a few donors.
In September, the 11226 zip displayed 124 unique donors for ‘past democratic candidates’, compared to 121 unique donors for Clinton and only 6 for Trump. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein had zero donors. (See graph above)
Kensington:
In the neighboring Kensington zip code (11218), Clinton’s unique donors hit 182 in September, barely rising above 179 for past dems. and 16 for Trump. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson had 1 donor, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein had 2 donations during the month of September.
This data is not entirely surprising, considering both 11226 and 11218 leaned toward Bernie Sanders in terms of unique political donors, according to Federal Election Commission data released in March 2016.
In the map, light blue and light red zip codes are areas where the candidate has 55 to 70 percent of donors. (Blue is for Clinton, red is for Trump.) Dark blue and dark red zip codes are areas where the candidate has a 70+ percent majority.
As well, there are 15 purple zip codes — meaning neither Clinton nor Trump have over 55 percent of donors.
According to the map, southwestern Brooklyn is by far the most Trump-happy area in the borough, with Coney Island, Sea Gate, Gravesend, Fort Hamilton and Dyker Heights constituting the only light red zip codes in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, Bay Ridge, Bath Beach, and most of Bensonhurst constitute the borough’s only light blue zip codes. Borough Park, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach and Mill Basin are purple, and the rest of the borough is solidly dark blue.
