Ditmas Park Residents Set To Celebrate The Debut Of Their Vietnamese Restaurant
After two Ditmas Park residents hoping to open a beer and banh mi spot couldn’t find the right location in our neighborhood, they moved on to Park Slope – where they’re now set to celebrate the launch of Bricolage, a modern Vietnamese restaurant at 162 5th Avenue, our sister site Park Slope Stoop reported.
“Initially we just wanted to do a simple beer and banh mi place,” Ditmas Park resident Jed Freedlander, said of himself and another neighbor, Miro Gal. “Then we advertised on Craigslist.”
Upon advertising, the two neighbors ended up connecting with Edward and Lien Jin, who recently worked at The Slanted Door in San Francisco.
Edward and Lien Jin, who had recently moved from San Francisco to New York, were looking to open a restaurant – and when they saw an ad for “Vietnamese gastropub looking for partners,” Edward said he knew it was a perfect fit.
Now, the rest is history and Freedlander, who manages the beer program at the Down Town Association in Manhattan; Gal, a professor at the School of Visual Arts; and Edward and Lien Jin are ready to make their debut in early February.
As originally planned, the restaurant will offer banh mi, but there will also be house-made head cheese and pate, as well as new takes on Vietnamese cuisine (think five-spice fried chicken with waffles and a turmeric beer-battered fish with sea salt and dill sprinkled taro chips, for example).
It’s a pretty big bummer that we’re not getting a beer and banh mi spot, but we’re excited for our neighbors’ new venture – and we’re looking forward to trying it!
