Ditmas Park Rental Roundup: Two Under Two

Ditmas Park Rental Roundup: Two Under Two

Private terraces, in-unit laundry, and jacuzzi tubs are nice and all, but sometimes you just need a nice place that you can, well, afford–and with Brooklyn’s median rents and home prices catching up to Manhattan’s, it’s getting increasingly difficult to find a reasonably-priced place in the neighborhood.

This week, we’ve worked to scrounge up a group of 2 bedroom apartments under $2,000. If you live in one of the apartment buildings, let prospective neighbors know how you like it.

Renovated prewar near Newkirk
Available: July 1
Price: $1,650, plus broker’s fee
Details: Sadly, there are no photos of the actual 2nd floor unit in this 18th Ave. building–but if the lobby is any indication, it’s pretty fabulous. The blurb describes a meeting of classic features like hardwood flooring and high ceilings with modern upgrades, including a dishwasher, in the kitchen and bath. Cats are welcome with an extra deposit.

Sleek and clean near Brooklyn College
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,650, no broker’s fee
Details: The location on this one is perfect for students at BC, and the place looks well-maintained. Nice floors, nice closets, nice space in the kitchen for a breakfast/study nook? It looks like there might not be a window in the common area, but the other light coming into the apartment could make up for it.

Ocean Parkway with perks
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,650, plus broker’s fee
Details: Another one with no interior pictures, but this does have in-building laundry. Since it’s closer to Kensington, folks who are more likely to use the F/G than the B/Q will have an easy time of it–oh, and you’ll have direct access to the bike path for Coney Island adventures this summer.

Victorian near Avenue H
Available: Immediately
Price: $1,750, plus broker’s fee
Details: This unit is advertised as having a walk-in closet for all you clothes horses, and the mouldings and slanted ceilings are charming (the latter maybe only if you’re under a certain height). It’s hard to tell if there’s room in the kitchen for a table, though, and it might be tough arranging furniture around all those nooks and crannies. Cats are okay on approval–that is, if you’re okay with the whole hair-vs-carpet thing.
