District 38 Participatory Budgeting: The Results Are In

The results are beginning to come in for New York City’s Participatory Budgeting Cycle 6!

Council Member Carlos Menchaca announced the five winning projects for District 38 (Red Hook, Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace) yesterday evening at the Sunset Park Library located at 5108 4th Avenue.

This was District 38’s fourth consecutive year of Participatory Budgeting, with twelve project proposals on its ballot. Since 2014, the District has seen over 23,000 voters select 22 winning projects which received more than $8.9 million in City Council capital funding.

A total of 8,121 votes were received in Menchaca’s District this year.

The District 38 PBNYC 2017 Winning Capital Projects are:

Security Cameras For Childrens’ Safety At PS 1 – received 3,512 votes and will receive $400,000 in funding.

Schoolyard Improvement For PS 503/PS 506 – received 2,919 votes and will receive $700,000 in funding.

Electrical Upgrade And Air Conditioning Wiring For School’s Gym At MS 821/MS 136 – received 2,792 votes and will receive $400,000 in funding.

Handball Court Renovations In Sunset Park – received 2,609 votes and will receive $500,000 in funding.

Smart Tech For Summit Academy – received 2,591 votes and will receive $120,000 in funding.

Electrical Upgrade And Air Conditioning Wiring For School’s Gym
Budget: $400,000
Location: MS 821/MS 136, 4004 4th Avenue, Sunset Park
Install an improved cooling system so students and community members are able to enjoy activities and community events.

Split-Level Air Conditioning In Multi-Purpose Room
Budget: $400,000
Location: PS 516, 4222 4th Avenue, Sunset Park
Install a cooling system in the multi-purpose room where meetings, school activities, and enrichment classes are held.

Smart Tech For Summit Academy
Budget: $120,000
Location: Summit Academy, 27 Huntington Street, Red Hook
Install teacher resource stations, computers, and much needed equipment to improve learning for our diverse children.

Auditorium Lighting And Sound Upgrade
Budget: $500,000
Location: John J. Pershing, IS 220, 4812 9th Avenue, Sunset Park
Enhance the auditorium with new microphones, lighting, projector, speakers and a secondary control panel.

Security Cameras For Childrens’ Safety
Budget: $400,000
Location: PS 1, 309 47th Street, Sunset Park
Install surveillance cameras outside and within the school to ensure the safety of the children.

PS 24 School Yard Update And Renovation
Budget: $500,000
Location: PS 24, 427 38th Street, Sunset Park
Add new extended gates and rubberized flooring to make the school yards safer for the children.

Schoolyard Improvement
Budget: $700,000
Location: PS 503/PS 506, 330 59th Street, Sunset Park
Repair the track and add a ramp for families to use, making it easier to access the school yard.

Gymnasium Updates And Remodeling
Budget: $500,000
Location: MS 88, 544 7th Avenue, Windsor Terrace
Build a state-of-the-art gym including a heating/cooling system and technological upgrades.

Air Conditioning Wiring At PS 94
Budget: $400,000
Location: PS 94, The Henry Longfellow School, Sunset Park
Rewiring of air conditioners in the classrooms which become very uncomfortable in the warmer months.

Bathroom Renovations
Budget: $220,000
Location: PS 15, The Patrick F. Daly Magnet School, Red Hook
Full renovation of the second-floor bathrooms for students and staff. This will complete all bathroom renovations.

Schoolyard Update At PS 69
Budget: $500,000
Location: PS 69, 6302 9th Avenue, Sunset Park
Install additional schoolyard gate openings, outdoor lighting, and new basketball hoops.

Parks

Handball Court Renovations
Budget: $500,000
Location: Sunset Park, 44th Street and 6th Avenue, Sunset Park
All courts need to be resurfaced. This will provide a safe and playable environment for hundreds of handball players.
