Discount Fashion Chain Primark To Open First Brooklyn Store Next Month At Kings Plaza
MARINE PARK – The Ireland-based discount fashion chain, Primark, will debut its first Brooklyn store next month at the Kings Plaza Shopping Center.
The retailer currently has 352 stores in eleven countries including Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France and the Netherlands, according to Forbes. The company began rolling out stores in the U.S. in 2015 and currently has eight locations in the northeast including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Primark’s first New York outpost opened in Staten Island in 2017. The company will open two additional locations in New Jersey and Florida later this year.
The Brooklyn location will take over three floors of a former Sears at the Kings Plaza mall. The 57,900-square-foot space will offer clothing, shoes, and accessories for women, men and kids, as well as beauty products and home decor, according to Time Out New York.
As BKLYNER reported back in 2016, real estate development firm Macerich acquired Kings Plaza Mall in 2012. Primark and a Zara outpost will anchor the shopping center currently under reconstruction and includes the renovation of the Sears building.
The Kings Plaza store will feature Brooklyn-branded merchandise such as t-shirts, sweaters, baseball caps, and more, Forbes reports. To introduce Brooklyn shoppers to Primark, the retailer is conducting photoshoots across the borough, focusing on young, potential customers. Shoots have already taken place on Coney Island and at Kings Plaza with additional photo opps planned for Williamsburg and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Primark opens at 1pm at the Kings Plaza Shopping Center at 5100 Kings Plaza on Wednesday, May 16.
