The Day: A Stolen Bike, Free Cash and a “Battle for Brooklyn” Screening
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
We were able to avoid the stormy weather yesterday and will likely avoid it again today, according to the National Weather Service. With expected temperatures only rising near 70, the humidity shouldn’t bother us as much as it will toward end the week.
Check out this local news to get you going this morning:
- A local resident whose bike was stolen is attempting to find anyone who can help locate it, according to Bike Watch NYC. The bike, a black 90’s style Yokota road bike with pink handlebars, was locked up near the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Clinton Avenue. The owner said when she came to get the bike yesterday morning the lock was broken and the bike was gone.
- People in Fort Greene were interviewed by WPIX 11 about a money giveaway in Manhattan and Brooklyn this weekend. The man behind the cash flow is Justin Buzi, a San Francisco real estate investor who wants to “pay it forward” by leaving $20 in envelopes and posting about the location on the @hiddencash Twitter account. Will you be watching for the hints this weekend, locals?
- The Municipal Art Society of New York will present its Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal to Bruce Ratner and MaryAnne Gilmartin of Forest City Ratner today to honor their contributions to New York City. To mark the occasion the Historic Districts Council will screen “Battle for Brooklyn” and follow it up with a panel discussion on the continued impact of the Atlantic Yards project. The 6 p.m. show at the Brooklyn Lyceum at 227 4th Avenue is free, but you need to RSVP to get your seat by calling (212) 614-9107 or emailing bharmon@hdc.org.
