The Day: New Plays, Feminist Art and a Holiday Fair at MoCADA

Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

As nice as last night’s snow was, the rain that crept in will stay with us for most of today – until 3 p.m. or so, according to the National Weather Service. Make sure to remember your umbrellas and raincoats on your way out this morning.

  • The Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company presents three new plays at Griot’s INK! tonight at the South Oxford Space. Come see original work by new playwrights, performed by professional actors.   • Judith Bernstein will give a lecture tonight at the Pratt Institute on her experiences as a visual artist and activist for 40 years. Bernstein will discuss her career, which includes helping found the A.I.R. Gallery, as well as her role as an early member of the Guerrilla Girls, the Art Workers’ Coalition and Fight Censorship. Bernstein recently exhibited a selection of drawings in a solo show at the New Museum. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Hall Auditorium on the Pratt Institute, located at 200 Willoughby Avenue. The lecture is free and open to the public.
  • Still looking for the right holiday gift and want to learn how to make a great card to go with it? The Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora Arts will host a Holiday DIY Fest this Saturday, when you can shop for the holidays at local vendors from around Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. Feeling crafty? Teaching artists from MoCADA will lead jewelry-making and card-drawing workshops throughout the day for both kids and adults. Doors will open from 12 to  6 p.m. and admission is free.
