Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Brooklyn broke professional sports barriers – akin to when Jackie Robinson walked onto Ebbets Field – this week, when the Brooklyn Nets signed Jason Collins to a contract. Collins has become the first openly gay athlete for the four major professional sports leagues, a deal that the Brooklyn Paper and the Atlantic Yards Report lauded.

Here’s more local news to start your day:

  • Now that we’re not receiving waves of snow, we bet many of you are looking for ways to get out in the nabe. The new Clinton Hill restaurant Emily might be a good option if you like Italian, according to the Village Voice. The toppings can and should be piled high at the family-run joint, but don’t miss out on the paste, according to the post.
  • In other local food news, Brooklyn Based showed us a few Fort Greene restaurant storefronts that have changed hands, highlighting what used to reside in the space, but also what can be found there now and a review of the current food. What do you think about the restaurant changes? Are they a net gain or loss?
  • Designs were posted for the front of a new single-family home on the corner of Greene and Grand Avenues, Brownstoner reported. The blog points out that Neo-Georgian row house might not be the perfect architectural fit for the area. What do you think about the design, locals?
