Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Break out the shorts, locals, it’s spring in the nabe. While shorts might be a drastic suggestion, the air will feel much warmer than it has in the past months. Saturday brings a high of 64 and sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service – so get outside before it starts to cool down again on Sunday. And if you get outside for some spring fun, don’t forget to post some pictures in The Nabe’s Flickr group.

  • Starting this spring, Myrtle Avenue is getting a makeover – a $6 million makeover. Thanks to Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership Executive Director Michael Blaise Becker, the city will start work on Myrtle Plaza, a 25,000-square-foot pedestrian mall between Hall Street and Emerson Place, according to report by Crain’s New York Business. The project is paid for mostly through city and federal grants, and the plaza will host a myriad of outdoor community events.
  • On Saturday, the Greene Hill Food Co-op will host an “open shopping” day for non-members who want to experience shopping for affordable, sustainable and locally sourced groceries. Visitors can learn how to co-op works and how to join from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The co-op is also hosting the MillionTreesNYC free tree giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon, and the first 100 people will get a tree.
  • It may only be spring now, but summer will soon hit the nabe. It’s time to start thinking about where to send the kids to get some fresh air out of the concrete jungle. The Child Development Support Corporation and Child Care Resource and Referral Services is sponsoring a Camp Fair this Saturday. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., stop by 352-358 Classon Avenue to learn about free and low-cost day and sleep-away camps, performing arts and sports camps, and camps for children with special needs. There will be on-site registration, summer youth employment applications, and children’s activities and giveaways.
