- The Brooklyn Academy of Music is holding its 28th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration today. If you hurry quick to the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House lobby, you might snag some of the free tickets, which started to be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at 8 a.m. The celebrations include a showing of the documentary “Free Angela Davis and All Political Prisoners” at 1 p.m., performances by jazz pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs and the Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. The festivities begin at 10:30 a.m.
- The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Ivy Rose Foundation and Brown Memorial Baptist Church are hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Workshop on Consumer Debt, Credit Reports and Legal Rights at 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brown Memorial Baptist Church at 484 Washington Avenue. The free workshop will cover consumer rights and how to address credit problems.
- The Brooklyn Public House on DeKalb and Vanderbilt Avenues is rumored to be closed, reported Gothamist. A sign was spotted on the restaurant’s door saying “Thanks for a great run!” though there’s nothing about a closing on the Brooklyn Public House’s website. We’ll be checking into the rumor, locals.
