Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

With temperatures taking a nose dive last night, the chilly breeze made us add on some extra layers of clothing this morning. Expect the big to only reach around 20 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. At least we don’t have to deal with the snowy weather that much of New York is digging out from today.

Here’s more news to get you going this morning:

  • Meridian Capital Group just made a $200 million bet on Brooklyn, Real Estate Weekly reported. The real estate investment company purchased buildings on Vanderbilt Avenue and Fulton Street, hoping to be part of the neighborhood’s revitalization. The recently renovated Vanderbilt site is home to ten floors of office space, while the Fulton property will be home to Brooklyn’s first H&M store, as well as a T.J. Maxx and Nordstrom Rack, with luxury rental apartments on upper floors after a renovation completes.
  • Mark your calendars for this coming Monday, March 17, when Community Board 2’s Parks and Recreation Committee will hear a presentation on House Resolution 1501, a bill “To direct the Secretary of the Interior to study the suitability and feasibility of designating the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument in Fort Greene Park, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, as a unit of the National Park Service.” The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Dining Room A at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, located at 121 DeKalb Avenue.
  • As part of the Greene Hill Food Co-op‘s community outreach, the co-op will host “Open Shopping” days. The first Open Shopping day, happening on March 22, is intended as a day non-members can visit and see how the co-op works, view its inventory and prices, and learn how to join. The Co-op will also give away 100 free trees, in partnership with the MillionTreesNYC project, on a first-come, first-served basis. Head to 18 Putnam Avenue between 10 a.m. and noon for the trees, but the co-op will remain open until 4 p.m.
