The Day: A CB2 Meeting, Thanksgiving and a March for Pedestrian Safety
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
With temperatures in the mid-60s, yesterday’s November roast was peculiar. Today’s weather, with temperatures peaking at 49 degrees, will be more seasonal. Grab a scarf, a hat and a coat, especially if you’re headed out after sunset, when temperatures will reach freezing, according to the National Weather Service.
- Make Brooklyn Safer hosts a march tonight at the corner of Clermont Avenue and DeKalb Avenue to continue to rally the nabe behind the need for more pedestrian safety measures, a fight ignited by the recent death of 9-year-old Lucian Merryweather. Regardless of weather, community members will meet at 6:15 p.m.
- Community Board 2 committee meetings continue this week, and the Land Use Committee is on tomorrow night’s docket. David Lowin, vice president of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation, opens the meeting with a presentation on the Empire Stores renovation. Announced by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in September, the DUMBO warehouses will be developed into office and retail space, according to The Real Deal, who also reported that rent prices will start at $1.5 million per year. The rest of the CB2 Land Use meeting will address a handful of applications for Certificates of Appropriateness, including the installation of new tree guards on the 200 block of Clinton Avenue. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Room LC400 in the Dibner Building of the Polytechnic Institute at 6 Metrotech Center.
- The Ingersoll Community Center on Myrtle Avenue will host a free Thanksgiving day dinner on Nov. 28 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The food is free, but you must grab a ticket prior to the event; only the first 100 people with a ticket will be served. Visit the center at 177 Myrtle Avenue, or call them at (718) 522-5051 to reserve a spot.
