The Day: Board Meetings, Books and Mayor Bloomberg Cuts a Ribbon
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
September is over, but we’re stuck with some of the summer’s residual heat; temperatures will hit 80 degrees today and the week’s high will reach a balmy 84 degrees tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.
- Community Board 2 will hold the first and second of its monthly committee meetings tonight and tomorrow night. First up is the Economic Development & Employment Committee meeting tonight in the Jonas Board Room in Metcalfe Hall on the campus of Long Island University Brooklyn. On the agenda is a hiring report from the Barclays Center and a presentation on the Oct. 5 launch of the “Bike Friendly Business District,” a program highlighting local businesses that support bicyclists. Then on Wednesday, Oct. 2, CB 2 will hold a meeting of the Health, Environment & Social Services Committee. In addition to vetting a dozen applications for liquor licenses, the committee will also hear from a spokeswoman for the Safe Return program of the Alzheimer’s Association of New York on a nationwide emergency response system for persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses.
- Got a library book due today? You’ll have an extra day to return it because the Clinton Hill branch of the Brooklyn Public Library will close at 4 p.m. today in preparation for the Brooklyn Public Library’s first annual Brooklyn Classic Fall Cocktail Party + Benefit.
- Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will commemorate the Oct. 3 opening of BRIC House, BRIC’s new 40,000-square-foot house of contemporary art, performance and a new television studio, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow at 9 a.m. Show up early to see the longtime mayor before he’s out of office and celebrate the new space for arts in the community.
