Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

We’re almost at the finish of another week here in the nabe and although the National Weather Service is calling for a bit of rain today, we’re looking forward to clear skies this weekend to squeeze in a few fall events before winter’s chill sets in. Are there any cool events happening that we should know about? Let us know what we’re missing by filling out this form. And if you want to share what you see this weekend, don’t forget to upload your photos to The Nabe’s Flickr group.

Here’s some local news to help you start your day:

  • In case you missed out last weekend, local muralist, cartoonist and jewelry maker Alexander Gruss will open his LEX56 gallery tonight to exhibit Dominican Republic artist Wali Vidal’s work. The space opened on Nov.1, but Gruss wants more community members to be able to see the art. Get your view between 4 and 8 p.m. at 56 Lexington Avenue, between Classon and Grand Avenues.
  • Want to get noticed for your street-wise fashion sense? One-off leather goods are at your fingertips in the nabe, according to Brooklyn Based. Flux Productions, based out of designer Ryan Greer’s studio apartment in Clinton Hill, makes bags for the long-haul – built with high-quality, locally-sourced leather and hardware. The bags, which range in price from $90 to $400, can be purchased on Flux Productions’ Etsy page.
  • Following the death of 9-year-old Lucian Merryweather, Make Lafayette Avenue Safer has renewed its fight for increased traffic safety and is inviting community support. The group will meet this Saturday to back a bill aimed at lowering traffic speed to 20 mph on residential city streets. If you want to show your support, or if you have any ideas for the group, RSVP here for the meeting, which will be held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 215 Cumberland Street.
