Seven have been arrested for allegedly selling drugs like heroin, crack-cocaine, and marijuana to undercover officers over the last eight months and the majority of sales took place within 1,000 feet of a school, announced Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton today.

The investigation began in September 2015 and focused on the area bounded by Gates Avenue to the north, Atlantic Avenue to the south, Classon Avenue to the east, and Clinton Avenue to the west, after a series of community complaints. A number of transactions also took place near Fulton Street and Nostrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

“These defendants have been charged for allegedly dealing crack-cocaine, heroin and other drugs in broad daylight and near schools and houses of worship in total disregard for the children and people who attend them,” said Thompson.

In one transaction, a clandestine cop bought 699 glassines of heroin for ten dollars each.

The drugs were sold under names like “Red Dragon”, “Death Strike”, and “Jack Daniels.” Undercover officers made approximately 48 purchases of crack-cocaine, heroin, Klonopin, marijuana, and Xanax.

The seven Brooklynite men arrested — who range in age from 20 to 58 — go by names like “Whispers,” “Black Hat,” and “Rock.”

The defendants were variously charged in indictments or complaints with criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds, second- and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and related counts.

Many of the deals were made in broad daylight and some included delivery service as early as 7:45am.

Deals were concentrated within 1,000 feet of a school, including: Purvis J. Behan P.S. 11 (419 Waverly Avenue), Stephen Decatur Middle School 35 (272 MacDonough Street), and the Leadership Preparatory Charter School (141 Macon Street).

A number of buys also took place inside the abandoned residential building at 488 Waverly Avenue that has since been seized by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Additionally, many deals took place near a senior center, residential homes, and several small businesses. Moreover, three transactions took place within steps of religious institutions.
