Cymbrowitz To Speak At Forum For Creating Office To Improve Service For Seniors And Disabled

Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, Chair of the Aging Committee, will be speaking before a panel at Brooklyn Borough Hall Wednesday about the importance of studying the feasibility of a new office that will serve New York’s seniors and disabled.

The Borough Hall event is one of nine public forums commissioned by the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) to assess the benefits of creating an Office of Community Living. The new office would be tasked with improving programs and services for the elderly and disabled. The Aging Committee agreed to support the study as long as public comment was given priority in both the study and the final evaluation, according to a press release from Cymbrowitz’s office.

Cymbrowitz encouraged affected residents to attend and give their input.

“It is important that we keep an open mind to new opportunities and options to improve service delivery and quality of life for seniors and people with disabilities,” Cymbrowitz said in the press release. “An Office of Community Living could be one possibility, but the Office for the Aging needs to hear from you – providers and consumers of services – before they can evaluate the appropriateness of such an Office for our State and communities.”

The hearing takes place Wednesday from 1 – 3pm at Brooklyn Borough Hall (209 Joralemon Street).
