BORO PARK – A 26-year-old cyclist died after being struck by a box truck early evening yesterday.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, Pedro Tepozteco was cycling westbound on 47th Street on the right side of the road. At the same time, a 29-year-old was driving a 2017 Hino box truck heading westbound on 47th Street, approaching the 17th Avenue intersection.

According to the cops, as the truck was passing the cyclist, Tepozteco was struck by the side rear tires. Cops found the young man lying on the street with severe trauma to the body.

He was taken to Maimonides Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

“Bicyclist deaths are way up in 2019 compared to the same time last year, and the administration is dragging its feet on so many street safety plans that could help prevent crashes like these,” Transportation Alternatives told Bklyner. “The City Council needs to pass the Vision Zero Street Design Standard immediately because it’s becoming clear that the mayor isn’t going out of his way to protect people who travel on two wheels.”
