Cyclist Killed By Out-Of-Control SUV Near Barclays Center Early This Morning
An out-of-control SUV struck and killed a cyclist and crashed into two other cars near the Barclays Center early this morning, injuring at least three other people, according to the NYPD.
The FDNY responded to Atlantic Avenue between Flatbush and 4th Avenues at 7:04am Monday morning, where they found the cyclist in the roadway, already deceased. The vehicle that struck the cyclist then hit two other cars, cops said. Of the three injured, one was in serious condition, one was in stable condition and one had minor injuries, officials said.
While the FDNY could not confirm ages or genders of any of the victims, the Post reports that the victim was a man.
According to Gothamist, freelance photographer Andrew Katz arrived on the scene at 7:45am. Witnesses told Katz that the driver of the SUV had approached Atlantic Avenue from 4th Avenue, and rear-ended another motorist at the corner of Dean Street. The SUV driver then crashed into the cyclist between Atlantic and Flatbush, struck a second vehicle, and then crashed into a steel pole in front of the LIRR entrance at 4th Avenue and Flatbush.

This stretch of roadway is notoriously dangerous. In October of 2014, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck while crossing Flatbush Avenue, and in April of 2014, a man was hit and killed by a tractor trailer near this intersection.
Police say the investigation into this morning’s crash is ongoing, and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is still on the scene. We will update with more information when it becomes available.
