Crown Heights: 6 Apartments On Affordable Housing Lottery

CROWN HEIGHTS — Affordable housing units are now open for six affordable Crown Heights apartments. Three apartments are open at 912 Bergen Street and another three at 1672 Dean St.

1672 Dean Street

The Dean Street property is a 4-story structure featuring 6,496 sq. ft. of residential space across 8 units, including a penthouse. Records on the building date back to 1976 when Connie and Edna Cooper bought the then-2-story home for $21,500.

Developers, SSJL 1672 Dean St. LLC, purchased the building from Ethel Dockery in 2017 for $800,000.

Applicants can choose from 3 one-bedroom apartments. The affordable units are reserved for applicants earning 130% of the area median income (AMI). Annual income requirements range from $60,000 – 122,070 from one, two and three-member households.

The price for a one-bedroom $1,750 per/month for a lone studio and $1,039 for the one-bedrooms.

Each unit has its own laundry room.

New York City residents have first preference to apply for the affordable units. A percentage of units will be set aside for applicants with mobility (5%) and vision/hearing (2%) disabilities.

The second development, built in 2014, sits next to the Franklin Avenue shuttle at 912 Bergen Street (between Classon and Franklin Avenue).  The 6-story structure features 10,200 sq. ft. of residential space across 12 units.

Applicants can choose from one studio apartment and two 1-bedroom apartments.  The affordable units are reserved for applicants earning 60% of the area median income (AMI). Annual income requirements range from $30,995 to $43,860 for singles. For one- and two-family households interested in a one bedroom prices range from $35,623 to $50,100.

Prices range from $904 per/month for a lone studio and $1,039 for the one-bedrooms. Amenities include a coin-operated shared laundry room.

Residents of Community Board 8 will receive preference to 50% of units, while city employees have first preference to 5% of units. A percentage of units will be set aside for applicants with mobility (5%) and vision/hearing (2%) disabilities.
